Designing playgrounds where children of different ages and abilities play together
Problem Statement
Many playgrounds still isolate kids who use mobility devices on a single ramp or a separate bay. Families wanted one place where everyone could play together — without a “special” corner that felt like an afterthought.
How Park Planet Added Value
Ground-level and ramped routes
We combined inclusive ramps, transfer platforms, and ground-level sensory play so children can enter the structure from more than one point and stay in the action with their peers.
Shared play, not separate play
Face-to-face swings, wide decks, and adjacent spinners let a caregiver and child — or two kids with different abilities — use the same piece of equipment at the same time.
The Result
The finished playground reads as one environment. Families stay longer, kids of different ages mix naturally, and the park meets the community’s goal of play that is welcoming rather than merely compliant.
